PORTABLE NATURE
Biochemistry Design / Storytelling / Photography Film

Bennington, Vermont.
New York City, New York.
Human Province, China.

Dec 2021
On show during art festival in the mountain village in Human Province.

Collaborative project, bringing together and comparing the microscopic differences in nature between Vermont, New York and China. Tested the same nature samples (ponds, dirt, flower pedals) and compared differences on microscopic level.

On what scale do we experience our own environments? It seems that we are fixated on the big things – buildings, trees, lakes, mountains, canyons. We seek the largest features of our environment so they can show us just how small we are. Scale is everything. The media contained in the video illustrate the familiar, macroscopic, features of our surroundings alongside the unfamiliar (though, possibly unconsciously familiar) microscopic features like bacteria and plant cells from three distinct biomes.
